Biography
Anne Harvey-Nagl is Concertmaster of the Volksoper Vienna, the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra, and the Beethoven Philharmonie Baden; Guest Concertmaster of the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra; and a frequent soloist and Concertmaster of the Vienna Mozart Orchestra.
She is also a member of the Koehne Quartet (since 1992), and of a number of other European-based chamber music ensembles including the Krasa Trio, Ensemble 5, Trio Arte, Trio 37, Clarinet Trio of the Vienna Volksoper, and the Chamber Ensemble of the Vienna Volksoper.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Anne began her violin studies with Brian Blake, Nelli Shkolnikova and Spiros Rantos. In 1986 she was the winner of the “National Youth Concerto Competition”, and in 1990, after graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Distinction), she received the ANZ International Fellowship for musical studies overseas, as well as the Pinschof Foundation Scholarship, enabling her to study with Professor Günter Pichler at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 1994, she appeared as soloist with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra during their “Presenting Young Artists” Series. Before her appointment as Concertmaster in 2011, she was Principal 1st Violin in the Volksoper for 12 years.

In addition to her regular commitments, Anne has performed with renowned ensembles such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble “Kontrapunkte”, Ensemble “die reihe”, as well as with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Radio Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR, and the Royal Flemish Philharmonic. She is a founding member of the highly acclaimed Australian World Orchestra, and has performed numerous times as soloist with orchestras in Austria, Australia, Switzerland, the UK, and Bulgaria.
Anne has also performed numerous recitals in Australia and Austria with pianists Julia Maria Sliwa, Gerrit Priessnitz, Ilse Schumann, Biliana Tzinlikova, Kristian Chong, and John O’Donnell.
Together with pianist Julia Maria Sliwa, she released a CD recording of Strauss and Respighi Sonatas in 2023.

Die Wiener Biedermeier Solisten
Als Biedermeier wird die Zeitspanne von 1815 (Wiener Kongress) bis 1848 (Beginn der bürgerlichen Revolution) in den Ländern des Deutschen Bundes bezeichnet.
Der Ausdruck Biedermeier bezieht sich zum einen auf die in dieser Zeit entstehende eigene Kultur und Kunst des Bürgertums. Als typisch gilt die Flucht ins Idyll und ins Private. Das Biedermeier ist die Zeit des Walzers, dessen Hochburg natürlich Wien war. Er entstand aus dem meist im Freien getanzten Ländler. Zu den Tanzveranstaltungen strömten die Massen, war hier doch ausgelassene Fröhlichkeit erlaubt. Komponisten und Kapellmeister wurden teilweise gefeiert wie Stars, allen voran Johann Strauss und Joseph Lanner.
Das Repertoire der Wiener Biedermeier Solisten umfasst die klassische Wiener Unterhaltungsmusik des Biedermeier mit ihren Walzern, Polken, Märschen und Quadrillen. Auch die Wiener Operette findet regelmäßig Eingang in die Programme mit Solisten wie Peter Minich, Isabella Labuda, Elisabeth Flechl, Melanie Holiday, Melba Ramos, Richard Karczikowsky und Burgschauspieler Fritz Lehmann.
Die Wiener Biedermeier Solisten spielen seit 1990 in den bedeutendsten Konzertsälen dieser Welt. Tourneen führen die Musiker von Skandinavien bis Italien, von London bis Moskau, in den arabischen Raum und nach Asien. In Wien tritt das Ensemble unter anderem in der Wiener Volksoper auf.
Während der Konzerte werden launige Anekdoten und Wissenswertes rund um die Musikstücke, deren Komponisten und historische Zusammenhänge erzählt. Ein spezielles Programm führt durch die Entstehungsgeschichte des Wiener Walzers.
Die Besetzung umfasst zwei Violinen, Viola und Bass; bei Ausflügen in die Operette wird das Ensemble durch ein Klavier verstärkt.
